Nestled in a Craft Village
The Kutchh Courtyard is a home in Bhujodi, Kutch. Together with Ajrakhpur, this is the center for textiles in the entire region of Kutchh. The owner Smita first visited the area in the aftermath of the Bhuj earthquake of 2001 and was a part of the unified rehab effort to help the locals find their footing again. Smita felt passionate about the women involved in the manufacture of the local handicrafts and had already played a role in the creation of a collective to support the local artists. The frequent visits from Kolkata, her hometown, were becoming too taxing and therefore Smita decided to take the plunge and fully belong to the land she had worked in since 2001. A store was first envisaged, followed up with an idea to build a home & eventually, the homestay was born. Smita's childhood home in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan was the inspiration for the design of The Kutchh Courtyard, the traditional Indian style of having a centrally open courtyard (aangan) and rooms surrounding it. The house is encircled by lush gardens and open spaces. The food served by Smita is delicious Vegetarian fare, showcasing Gujarati & Rajasthani recipes, made using the finest ingredients and homemade spices. Smita is a charming host and a veritable treasure trove of information on the area. The Kutchh Courtyard is the right choice for people who want to enjoy the gentle pace of rural living.
The Kutchh Courtyard has 7 guest rooms on offer, located on the 1st floor of the property. The host family lives on the ground floor adjacent to the central open courtyard. The rooms are airy and spacious, elegantly furnished with teak wood furniture, and decorated with local crafts and artworks.
