Sheikalmudi Bungalow in the fertile lands of Valparai is a retreat and a journey back in time, thoughtfully designed to give visitors an idea of the estate’s deep-rooted charm.
Built originally in 1928, this heritage bungalow had served as an abode for plantation managers. The rooms whispered tales of bygone days yet unknown. It was on this backdrop that fascinated Lingesh Kalingarayar, a farmer turned into a wildlife enthusiast and birdwatcher. He set his sights to turn the historic house into a homestay in 2018.
His vision was clear - preserve the bungalow’s old-world character while making it a haven for wildlife lovers and serenity seekers. Lingesh’s love for the Anamalai Hills shines through in every detail, from the vintage architecture to the careful curation of comforts that let guests disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature.
Step inside, and you are greeted by the thick, aged walls that have stood through nearly a century of history. The furnishings remain true to the bungalow’s heritage, while modern amenities subtly complement its rustic charm. The bungalow walls may interrupt Wi-Fi signals, but this disconnect is intentional. Lingesh encourages guests to unwind and let nature takes the front seat.
As dusk sets in, the silence of passage by nocturnal elephants and leopards will remind guests of the harmony between man and the wild that Valparai has so effectively created.One of the world’s finest wildlife photographers and Lingesh’s friend, Prakash, often spends time with guests sharing his perceptions on this rich biodiversity.

The bungalow has a total of 3 rooms - two of them with french doors open up to a common verandah while the third has a private one.

Raahghar Payment Terms: Reservation is confirmed with an advance payment of 50% of the total amount at the time of booking. The balance payment is to be made 7 days prior to check-in.
Cancellation Policy (Indian Passport Holders Only):
In case of a cancellation due to any unforeseen circumstance a credit note will be issued by the property to the guest for the amount paid till date.
The credit note will be valid for use within one year from the period of booking.
The guest can redeem the credit note against the amount of any future booking within a year and pay the balance if any as per the rates applicable on that date.

The bungalow was built in 1928 during the Colonial Era with the Sholayar dam view on one side and rainforest view on the other.
The bungalow is surrounded by 4 different reserve forests & tiger reserves, making it the best location for wildlife enthusiasts.
