Sawantwadi Palace

Story

Sawantwadi Palace, a Boutique Art Hotel, is situated within the expansive grounds of the Sawantwadi Palace. Originally known as the ‘Taisaheb Wada,’ it was the residence of the former queens. This portion has been renovated and refurbished by the resident royal family and opened as a boutique stay. The history of the palace dates back to the 18th century. Princess Shraddha and Prince Lakham Sawant Bhonsle, with their shared love for art, history, culture, and food, are actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the place.
The 6 rooms have been aesthetically restored and uniquely furnished, showcasing the fading art forms of Ganjifa and Lacquerware. Many furniture items are from the personal collection of the royal family. The cuisine at the palace is curated personally by Shraddha and Lakham, who are both chefs trained at The Culinary Institute of America. Every detail is meticulously planned and thought through by them. Their tasting menu is hand-curated and presented in a proper setting.
Sawantwadi Palace offers travellers an immersive experience in history, art, and cuisine in the heartland of Konkan, Maharashtra.

Sawantwadi is the only remaining place in India where the ancient art of Ganjifa is still practiced. The Sawant Bhonsle family is persistent in upholding the art of Ganjifa and Lacquerware art forms. The local artists are helped by the in-house foundation so that this art keeps breathing.

Will be displayed soon.
