Vijay and Bhanumati live on this property along with their son Vishanth and their five dogs. At 7500 feet above sea level, Red Hills overlooks the emerald lake in one of the most beautiful valleys of the Nilgiri range. The 150-year-old original structure was renovated and first inhabited by the family for a few years before the idea of a homestay emerged sometime in 2006. This plantation farm is on the far end of the Nilgiris on the border with Kerala.
Their cook Balkrishna stirs up very enjoyable local recipes and an evening high tea is best relished with the biscuits and cookies baked in-house. Mobile coverage is limited and the feeling of being disconnected in this exclusive location is what people have been coming here for over the last decade. The organic farm managed by their son, Vishanth provides the veggies, and the meals are simple but very homely and tasteful. Stay with Red Hills to enjoy the hosts' warm hospitality and possibly the best views of the Nilgiris.
The rooms are spread around a 150-year-old colonial bungalow at an altitude of 7300 feet above sea level. Although a total of above 10 rooms, Red Hills just operates with six rooms as of now making it a more intimate experience. The six rooms are set at different levels on a hill on this property.
These are two rooms next to each other and right at the level where the dining area and the common sit-out are. Both these rooms have an outside sit-out overlooking the valley and are ideal for people with walking issues.

These are the next set of two rooms and part of one single unit. They are elevated above the common area and enjoy an undisturbed view of the entire emerald lake. The decor is rustic and sunsets are best enjoyed from here.

These are rooms on the highest elevation and involve a little hike to reach up. They command the best views of the property. It is best suited for young people who like some seclusion.

Price Description: The price is for double occupancy and includes all taxes and accommodation with the meals mentioned below.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and Dinner
Third Person/Child: Adult (above 12 years old) - Rs. 6000/- | Child (5 to 11 years old) - Rs. 1500/- and single occupancy 9000/-
Raahghar Payment Terms: Reservation is confirmed with an advance payment of 50% of the total amount at the time of booking. The balance payment is to be made 7 days prior to check-in.
Cancellation Policy (Indian Passport Holders Only):
In case of a cancellation due to any unforeseen circumstance a credit note will be issued by the property to the guest for the amount paid till date.
The credit note will be valid for use within one year from the period of booking. The guest can redeem the credit note against the amount of any future booking within a year and pay the balance if any as per the rates applicable on that date. This credit note is also transferable and can be used by the guest/transferee only once within the stipulated date.

The nearest town is Ooty which is a 45 mins drive.
As you approach the mountain road on the last stretch of 6 km, the mobile range would be intermittent. Make sure to load the Google map first. Late evening arrival into the property is not recommended because of wildlife.
Red Hills commands one of the best locations in the Nilgiris. The original bungalow is 150 years old and with the breathtaking views of nature, the history of this property is worth a listen.
All organic vegetables. No plastic is used on the property. The exclusive location demands most of the food including chicken and fish to be locally sourced.
