Nature, Serenity and Escape

North Goa, Goa
Olaulim Backyards

Story

Savio grew up in Mapusa, North Goa, not far from his current home - Olaulim Backyards. But in Goa, nothing ever feels too far. In the early 2000s, his path crossed with Pirkko, a Finnish traveler who would later become his wife. Their shared passion for travel brought them together, a field they both worked in and continue to be part of today.

When they acquired a piece of land by the backwaters, they initially built a small home in one corner, raising their children while balancing careers - Savio in the travel trade and Pirkko guiding Finnish and Russian groups through Goa. As the years passed and their children left for higher education abroad, Savio longed for a life closer to nature rather than constantly being on the road for work.

This desire led to the birth of Olaulim Backyards - a tranquil homestay woven into the vegetation surrounding the water. Savio designed four cottages that seamlessly blend with the landscape, creating a retreat that feels both secluded and deeply connected to Goa’s essence.

Step away from the familiar coastline and discover a different side of Goa - one where backwaters, birdsong, and warm hospitality redefine your experience.

Paradise Flycatcher

The smallest but coziest cottage, whose roof is built partly of recycled waste, is named after one of the most beautiful birds that occasionally grace our property. An early morning cup of coffee on the balcony overlooking the trees is a blissful way to start your day.
