Celebrating East Bhutan
Kunzang Choden is the first female English novelist in Bhutan. She is fondly called Aacji (queen) by the people who know her in the country. Kunzang married Walter, a Swiss national in the late 70s, and both of them traveled and worked around the world before her home in the Tang Valley in East Bhutan called her back. Ogyen Choling is a 300-year-old heritage home where the central construction now houses a lovely museum and the homestay accommodation is spread around the courtyard. The breakfast is served in its organic garden amidst the sounds of the morning birds and the smell of fresh coffee. Walter is often seen around the farm as he waves a good morning, while Kunzang attends to the guests, speaking about the valley and Bhutan in general, or her days in India. The girls working with Aacji lovingly stir up a continental fare for lunch under the balmy sun. Come and stay with Aacji and Walter and celebrate the East of Bhutan while experiencing living in this centuries-old home in the land of happiness.
The central courtyard with the museum and temple, is surrounded by 10 rooms of this lovely homestay. The rooms are all different in size, being undisturbed from the original structure. Some of the family’s original furniture and art pieces add that extra personal feel to the decor of these rustic rooms.
There are four cozy rooms which are especially comfortable in the colder months with a heater.
