Foothills Himalaya

A Himalayan Home in the Wild

Jim Corbett, Uttarakhand
Foothills Himalaya

Story

In the 1990s, Sherry and Deepa Shergill found a light-green patch of land between dense sal forests and the Kumaon Hills. What started as their holiday retreat became their permanent home, now lovingly opened to guests as Foothills Himalaya, a homestay in Kotabagh near Corbett National Park. Rushil, the couple’s son, manages the property.

The property grew over time. First, it was the stone house, then the mud house, and finally the wood structure. The stone house, with its sunlit glass ceiling, serves as the heart of the homestay. The reclaimed wood-built rooms reflect the family’s commitment to sustainability. The Shergill family lives in the mud house, while guests use the stone house and wood house.

Sherry and Deepa along with their son, Rushil, warmly welcome guests. Meals are a highlight, featuring farm-to-table delights from their garden. Mornings begin with breakfast on the open lawn, while evenings are perfect for tea under the stars.

Beyond the property, you can enjoy the sunset taking a stroll along the narrow village lanes, through the tomato fields. Staying on the other side of Corbett reserve away from commercial life is a final flourish before the safari through the reserve. Guests leave with stories, friendships, and a piece of the Shergill family’s life in the wild.
