The spirit of Konkan
Nestled amidst a lush, green landscape, Birdsong Farm is an enchanting homestay that captures the spirit of the Konkan coast. Set on 10 acres of land, this retreat is not only surrounded by over 200 varieties of trees and plants but also teems with the melodious sounds of birds chirping. The local bird species are frequent guests in the garden and congregate at the birdfeeder.
Originally farmland, the land was once home to a traditional patra house, a nod to the past that now complements the bungalow’s modern, earthy design. Sunil, the owner, has poured his heart and expertise into transforming this estate, from planting the foliage that surrounds the property to hand-design the rustic cupboards inside each room.
With years of experience running a popular Konkan restaurant a short drive away, Sunil has brought his culinary flair to Birdsong, ensuring every meal showcases local flavors and farm- fresh ingredients. Guests are often captivated by the experience, tasting authentic Konkan dishes and relishing seasonal fruits and vegetables plucked right from the property. Sunil’s love for traditional cooking extends to the recently built open kitchen, where guests can watch, learn, and even try their hand at preparing local delicacies. And for those curious about herbal remedies, the property is home to unique trees like camphor and insulin, which Sunil is always eager to introduce.
The Birdsong Farm offers a unique welcome to every guest with its warm and knowledgeable staff, who make sure each stay feels like home. Whether it’s during a festive celebration with traditional Konkan feasts or a peaceful evening spent birdwatching, every experience here is enriched by Sunil’s thoughtful touch. His lakefront home is only a few kilometers away, but it’s clear that Birdsong is where his passion blooms - much like the imported rambutan and cherry trees he hopes will soon bear fruit on this land he’s so carefully tended.
Birdsong Farm invites guests to slow down, savor the local flavors, and connect with the land and its stories. It’s a retreat where you arrive as a guest but often, like many before, find it hard to leave without planning your return.
