Bhimtal: A Tranquil Escape to Joys of Natadol

My journey from Pune to Bhimtal was one of anticipation and excitement. Leaving behind the bustling city life of Pune, I embarked on a journey that promised tranquillity, natural beauty, and a touch of adventure. The journey began with a flight to Delhi, followed by a picturesque train ride to Kathgodam, and finally, a scenic drive through winding mountain roads to the serene town of Bhimtal.

Bhimtal welcomed me with its beautiful lake, surrounded by lush green hills and quaint houses. Named after Bhima from the Mahabharata, this charming town in Uttarakhand is less commercialized than its neighbour, Nainital, offering a peaceful retreat away from the crowds. The centerpiece of Bhimtal is its stunning lake, which is larger than Nainital’s and offers boating and serene walks along its banks.

My crash pad for this journey was undoubtedly the most gorgeous homestay in Bhimtal – Joys of Natadol.

Nestled in a quiet corner of Bhimtal, this homestay is a gem for anyone seeking a blend of comfort and authentic local experience. The moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and a sense of genuine hospitality that made me feel instantly at home.

The hosts Paul Abraham & Joya are possibly the most friendly and warm people I have met. Together with their sons David & Daniel, and their two furry companions – Mr. Don & Choti – they run the homestay.

The homestay is beautifully designed, with rooms that offer stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan Peaks. My room was cozy and tastefully decorated, with large windows that allowed me to wake up to the sight of misty mountains, especially the Nanda Devi Peak. Each day started with a delicious, home-cooked breakfast featuring local delicacies, served in the charming dining area overlooking the verdant landscape.

Paul organized a small trek to nearby villages, where I met local artisans and farmers. This experience was enlightening and gave me a deeper understanding of the simplicity and richness of life in the hills.

I spent my days exploring the area, visiting the Bhimtal Lake Aquarium situated on an island in the lake, and hiking up to nearby viewpoints that provided panoramic views of the surrounding Kumaon hills. Each moment in Bhimtal felt like a step closer to nature, with its clear skies, fresh air, and the melodic calls of birds providing a soothing soundtrack to my days.

Evenings at the homestay were magical. I often found myself sitting by the outdoor fire pit, sipping on herbal tea, and watching the sunset behind the mountains. The sky would transform into a canvas of colours, eventually giving way to a blanket of stars. These moments of quiet reflection, under the vast Himalayan sky, were the most memorable moments of my trip.

Reflections on the Journey –

Leaving Bhimtal and Joys of Natadol was bittersweet. My journey from Pune to this tranquil haven had been filled with new experiences, breathtaking sights, and a deep sense of peace. The natural beauty of Bhimtal, combined with the warmth and hospitality of my hosts at Joys of Natadol, made this trip an unforgettable escape from the daily grind.

As I made my way back to Pune, I felt rejuvenated and enriched, carrying with me not just photos and souvenirs, but a profound sense of calm and a renewed connection to nature. Bhimtal and Joys of Natadol had offered me a slice of paradise, and I knew I would return someday to relive the magic of this serene retreat.
